Maternity Care - Antenatal and Postnatal Clinics

Home Pregnancy Test Kits, available from most chemists, are accurate and reliable.

Antenatal clinics are held by the community midwife locally.  Please contact receptionist regarding how to contact the midwife. You do not need to see a Doctor.

Full pre-natal advice is available as well as antenatal and postnatal care. Postnatal checks are usually carried out six weeks after delivery. Our staff will contact you directly to arrange a mutually convenient time. If you have not heard from the surgery within a month after your delivery do contact our reception staff.

If you need to speak with a midwife, they are based at Children’s Centre, Chatteris (01354 697739). All appointments are by appointment only.

Child Health Surveillance

We undertake child health surveillance care at regular sessions for screening of all infants in our practice. These usually take place between 6-8 weeks of age prior to the first set of your baby's immunisations.  Our reception staff will contact you to arrange an appointment.  Feel free to contact our staff directly if you have not been contacted by the surgery as your child approaches 7 weeks of age.

Other routine developmental checks are performed by your health visitor.

We strongly recommend that all children should be immunised as per the national immunisation programme. Go to  for further information.

Immunisation starts at eight weeks of age, and injections are given by the practice nurse. The local community Child Health Department will notify you of the week your child's immunisation is due. Please telephone the surgery to book an appointment slot.

We hold influenza immunisation sessions in Autumn of each year for those 65 and over and those patients in at-risk groups, as defined by the Department of Health.  The surgery will advertise clinics and invite patients in September each year.

Other immunisations such as Pneumovax and Shingles are by invitation only in at risk groups/ ages.

Minor Surgery

Special sessions are held for minor surgical procedures and joint injections.

Appointments are only made for such procedures after an initial assessment by a doctor to assess the most appropriate treatment for you and arrange your procedure.

Cervical Smears

Invitations will be sent to women due a smear. We leave it to you to make an appointment at any time when you are not on your period. The new liquid based cytology technique does not require mid-cycle timing. All smear results are sent by post as soon as they are available.

Minor Illnesses

Many conditions get better on their own and can be treated successfully at home. The pharmacist may be able to help you with these and advise about medicines you can buy over the counter. We also have a very useful booklet on minor illnesses which is available on request.
